This was an idea I had based upon Ironsworn Progress Tracks, and also thinking about how you’re really just making progress at chipping away at a gauge of effort. We over at Kane’s Kiln worked together to make an ICRPG-style travel procedure.
This is definitely a fun and interesting idea which needs some table time.
I have used it for two different tables.
The thing I learned from this is that it works, BUT, you need to set the expectation. This expectation is that you’re doing Wilderness EXPLORATION not just Travel.
Travel implies I know where I’m going. Exploration is the adventure seeking the unknown.
The I did use it to set some places in-between where the PCs started, and then when the HEARTS were filled, there was plenty of places to explore for the PCs. All of a sudden, these became important.
Of course, infinite ideas and infinte uses, so I look forward to hearing other people’s uses and experiences with this system as well.
i use a similar system in my homebrew setting that i hope to release in a few years. i can post it for any who want to try it and give feedback. its worked well on all my campaigns and fits 1 page. I thank phil for inspiring me to make it
