Ive outlined an idea for using a 2 action system similar to Pf2e. Seems like it may give players more freedom on their turn
Having come to ICRPG from Pathfinder, I love this idea. How would you deal with two-weapon fighting? I was thinking let the player attack twice but both are hard.
Truth be told not sure, just for the fact that i cant recall if two weapon fighting is an option in ICRPG to begin with. Though if it was… you would have to have both weapons having a LIGHT tag, you roll a HARD attemptsnd roll Effort twice??
Normal roll for main hand, roll at a disadvantage for off hand. If offhand roll is successful, it can be used to attack (rolls damage) or defend (+1 to defense next round).
Offhand weapon must be same or smaller than main hand weapon.
Edited to add this is my method, not official rules.
Id probably stay away from the 5e terminology and also place two weapon fighting behind an Ability
Two-Weapon specialist: make a Hard attempt, if succesful you can roll weapon effort twice and combine the result. Both weapons have to be the same size.
Two-weapon defender: requires two weapon specialist: When you make the Hard attempt instead of rolling weapon effort twice, you roll once and also add +1 defense until the start of your next turn.
That’s just semantics, you can call what you wish. But just keep in mind that Easy/Hard and Advantage/Disadvantage are two different mechanics. You can also combine both
Previously for two weapon fighters, I created different tiers of the ability:
- When using a light weapon on your off hand at the start of your turn, you may choose to gain +1 to your weapon effort OR +1 to DEF when using both weapons
- Roll your Effort with Advantage (roll twice, take the better outcome)
- Roll HARD check and roll double effort (bonus is the same) on a success
- You are so good or these weapons are magical twins, all effort bonuses are doubled
You can see that you can go at it many ways without having to give the player EXTRA actions/more rolls.
